HOW HUMANS AND DRAGONS CHOOSE EACH OTHER - This post is part of my ongoing world-building series exploring the geography, magic, culture, and history of Dimidium.
Also what you described happening in the early days means that a human may not have neural and physical capacity but still be recognised by a dragon and bonding attempted? I find that so heart-breaking. Makoto Shinkai level kind of heart-breaking hurhur..
Or do those people get injured while the dragons "browse"?
Before they realized the necessity of an early selection, many children and teens were presented to the dragons based only on their drive to be bonded. Which caused a variety of issues.
Some minds were apt, but too young to adapt. Some mature enough, but lacking the aptitude or enough training to compensate for a minor talent.
Conversely, many potential riders were 'lost' in the crowd, never having expressed a particular interest in being bonded themselves, sometimes simply out of a lack of confidence that prevented them from asking.
Not to mention the toll on the dragons that had to live with the knowledge of having destroyed a human mind inadvertently.
They were very quick to learn to leave the children alone.
Side note, I really like the way you present your lore. There are little stories scattered all about inside, so even though the post was long, it was engaging. Your skill continues to amaze me xD
This is about how specifically the mountain clan bonds, right? So there are others.. do they bond with dragons too and do they have another way? I'm reading on so I suppose I will find out more.
There is only one Bond with a ‘B’ in Dimidium, and it’s between dragons and humans.
Populations inhabiting other regions (such as the Crimson Desert and the Living Coast) have developed different ways to deal with the sudden lack of magical access humans experimented after the Separation, mainly based on their environment, social structures and institutions.
Part 1 through 3 of this miniseries are already in my website Lore section, the link should be working. Part 4 (the last one, about the first ever bond) will come out on the 12th on the website.

Will all this be on your website as well?
