A Tale from the Age of Hubris - In the depths of Dark Current winter, a desperate hunter tracks a wounded dragon through the frozen north. His brother is dying of cold-fever, and only dragon essence can fuel the ritual that might save him. But when Arn makes his kill, he discovers the terrible truth behind the dragon's refusal to flee—and realizes the old stories about dragons maintaining the icelands' balance weren't myths after all.
What I felt… definately Arn’s determination, and the knowledge that he was doing/had done a terrible thing, but had to see it through because of his brother. Him changing his mind and going back to save the eggs did not come as too much of a surprise too, because you could see that he really regretted what he had done.
Yes, I clearly am not comfortable with short shorts. 😂 But it’s a good way to challenge myself.
The main point that I tried to write around was the shift in the meaning of ‘no matter the cost’. While at the beginning is, ‘I will do this thing, to save my brother, no matter the cost (of dragon life)’, then it becomes ‘I will do this thing to complete the ritual, no matter the cost (of limb)’, and finally 'it swaps to ‘I will protect the dragon life no matter the cost (of human life)’.
I know, maybe it’s a bit too much for the wordcount….
I HAVE MIXED FEELINGS T-T
To be honest, it was hard in 1.5k words. I'd have liked more. The first draft was about 4k.
I hope it conveyed what I wanted.
Wow, yeah, then a lot was cut :o

Good challenge, but also you don't have to do it if you don't want to. But for challenge.. I suppose why not xD
